Hélas pour vous, nous ne pouvons pas accueillir d'étudiant ayant trois doctorants actuellement (2011)
Par ailleurs, voici pour information comment faire une thèse dans l'école doctorale SEVAB.

Plus précisément, pour faire une thèse il faut un financement pour trois ans (bourse), c'est obligatoire.
- Les étudiants et les labos peuvent obtenir des bourses diverses (CIFRE, industriel, association, leur pays, ambassade, ...): c'est difficile.
- Le ministère de l'Education Nationale donne des bourses à l'Ecole Doctorale, qui les redistribue, lors d'un concours difficile également (début juillet).
Concours SEVAB: chaque Equipe d'Acceuil de Doctorant (EAD) présente UN/E candidat/e.
Celui/Celle-ci se présente, ainsi que son travail de master M2R, en 10 min devant un jury d'une vingtaine d'enseignants chercheurs
Il/Elle présente ensuite en 10 min son projet de thèse (préparé avec l'équipe de recherche qui le présente). Ensuite il y a 20 min de questions.
Les candidats sont notés par le jury, et les meilleurs obtiennent les bourses (une dizaine chaque année pour SEVAB).
Il faut donc de prendre contact avec l'EAD dont le sujet vous intéresse spécialement (voir EAD et sujets sur http://www.sevab.ups-tlse.fr/ )
Si les sujets ne sont pas encore affichés sur le site SEVAB, ils seront mis en ligne autour du 2 Avril 2012.
Chaque EAD a de nombreuses demandes, en plus de "ses" stagiaires de Master M2R.
L'EAD choisit UN de ces étudiants (pas forcément son stagiaire M2R), et l'aide à préparer son dossier et sa présentation orale pour le concours SEVAB
Sil 'étudiant a une bourse au concours SEVAB, très bien: il fait sa thèse.
Si l'étudiant n'a pas de bourse SEVAB (il est classé trop loin dans le concours, ou il n'a pas pu s'y présenter),
mais qu'il est bon et motivé, et que l'EAD est très intéressé par lui/elle, l'EAD va chercher un autre financement (CIFRE, industriel, association, leur pays, ambassade, ...)
C'est une procédure qui n'est pas facile, mais chaque année de nombreux étudiants obtiennent des bourses et commencent des thèses !

You ask me if we would have a position for a PhD student next year in our laboratory: the answer is no.
Sadly, we cannot welcome one more student next year (2012) since we already have enough (may be toot many) students in the team.
In addition, please find below information for how to do a thesis in the graduate school SEVAB.

More specifically, to make a PhD thesis in a French lab, each student should have a three year funding higher than 1000€/month : this is mandatory.
- Students and labs can obtain various grants (CIFRE, industrial association, foreign student's country, embassy, ...): it's difficult to get a grant.
- The Ministry of Education gives 10 to 12 grants to the Graduate School SEVAB each year. These grants are then given to students who succeed SEVAB's competitive exam (5-6 July 2012).
- In addition INRA gives 1 to 3 five-year "Young Scientist Contract" PhD fellowships. They are given to the best students during SEVAB competition.
SEVAB competition: each SEVAB research team or lab (called Equipe d'Accueil de Doctorant, EAD) nominates one candidate student.
He/she will present his/her master work (M2R), in 10 minutes before a jury of twenty teacher-researchers
He/she will then present in 10 minutes his/her thesis project (prepared with the research team that nominated him/her).
Then there will be quetions from the jury to the candidate for 20 minutes, and the student will defend his/her future thesis.
Candidates are rated by the jury, and the best ones get scholarships (ten to 15 each year in SEVAB Doctoral School).
It is therefore necessary to contact the lab (=EAD) which you are interested specifically (see EAD and http://www.sevab.ups-tlse.fr/en/labo/labo.php)
If subjects are not yet posted to the site SEVAB, they will be posted around April 2, 2012.
Each EAD has many student applications in addition to its own students (presently doing a Master M2R studentship in the lab).
Each lab (=EAD) chooses one of these students (not necessarily his trainee M2R), and helps him/her to prepare his case and the oral presentation for the SEVAB competition (5-6 July 2012).
If the student wins a scholarship at SEVAB competititon: Fine, he/she got the thesis, and starts working with the lab next fall (usually first of October).
If the student does not win a grant SEVAB (he/she is ranked too far in the competition, or he/she could not make it) but is good and motivated, and that the EAD is very interested in him/her, the EAD will seek alternative funding (CIFRE, industrial association, their country, embassy ...)
It is a procedure that is not easy, but every year many students receive scholarships and begin their thesis!
So, watch SEVAB website end of March-early April for PhD topics and hiring research teams, and
